16 Fun Employee Award Ideas That People Will Actually Keep

There is something wonderful about an award that makes an entire room smile.

Not because someone has delivered the highest sales numbers or completed 25 years with the company. But because everyone knows exactly why this person is receiving this award.

The colleague who is always charged up.
The person who somehow gets things done at rocket speed.
The one everyone calls when there is a fire to put out.
The teammate who connects everyone with everyone.

Fun employee awards recognize the little things people become known and loved for at work. Done well, they say something surprisingly powerful:

We notice you.
And after more than 26 years of creating awards at Pinnacle, we have learned something else.

Fun recognition works when everyone laughs together, not when someone becomes the joke.
So before you start thinking up funny award names for your employees, there are a few things worth getting right.

What Makes a Great Fun Employee Award?

The best fun awards are not random jokes turned into trophies. They are rooted in something real about the person receiving them.

For us, a good fun award passes three simple tests.

1. The person should instantly recognize themselves in it

The Always Charged Up Award works because everyone knows that person.
The Fire Fighter Award works because the team already knows who gets called when something goes wrong.

You shouldn’t need five minutes to explain why someone is receiving an award. The smile usually starts before you finish saying its name.

2. It should feel affectionate, never embarrassing

This is the most important test.
The recipient should be laughing too.
Humour can make recognition wonderfully personal, but it can also go wrong surprisingly quickly. A fun award should celebrate something people appreciate about a colleague, not turn an insecurity, habit or personal characteristic into entertainment.
We’ll come back to this because it deserves a section of its own.

3. Make it something worth keeping

We intentionally make many of our fun awards small.
There is a reason for that.
We want them to end up on someone’s desk, not eventually in someone’s drawer.
A small astronaut. A miniature rocket. A tiny money bag. A chocolate bar. A caution sign.
They become little conversation pieces.
Months later, someone notices the astronaut sitting beside your laptop and asks: “What’s that for?”
And the recognition gets to live all over again.

16 Fun Employee Award Ideas We’ve Loved Creating

One of the best things about fun awards is that there really are no fixed categories. Some of our favourite designs have started with a client telling us: “We have this person on our team who always…” That’s usually where the fun begins. Companies bring us their own names, stories and inside references, and we get to turn those ideas into something tangible.

Here are a few we’ve particularly enjoyed creating.

1. Out of the World Award

Antique silver resin award seated on a cratered moon, making victory signs above a personalised square base

For the person who has done something genuinely extraordinary. A tiny astronaut makes this one difficult not to love. It has even been used by BNI for its 30-second awards. The idea is simple:

You did something out of this world.

And because the award is deliberately small, the astronaut can continue living on the recipient’s desk long after the presentation is over.

2. Bomb of a Performance Award

Sometimes “great job” doesn’t quite cover it. This one is for the presentation, project, pitch, event or performance that absolutely smashed expectations. Playful design. Very clear message.

3. Infinite Possibilities Award

Metallic Blue infinity shaped resin award with a textured finish and personalised matching base

For someone who keeps learning, experimenting and seeing possibilities others might miss. We’ve also seen this work beautifully in Learning & Development, where it can become a small token that recognizes curiosity, growth or completing an important learning milestone.

4. Always Charged Up Award

Battery shaped resin awards with yellow and Bright copper on top metallic terminals and custom lettering on a black finish, Fun Award for Office

Every workplace seems to have one. The person who brings energy into the room and somehow still has some left when everyone else is running on empty. This is recognition for something that may never appear on a KPI, but can have an enormous effect on the people around them.

5. You Have Arrived Award

Milestone shaped resin fun award at work with an orange top

One of our more versatile ideas because it can be playful or genuinely significant. As an onboarding gift, it simply says: You’ve arrived. Welcome.
For a career or performance milestone, those same words take on a completely different meaning: You’ve arrived. Look how far you’ve come. It’s a fun design that can carry a surprisingly serious message.

6. The Proactive Planner Award

The orange caution-sign award. For the colleague who spots the problem before everybody else and probably already has Plan A, Plan B and Plan C ready. It recognizes the person who doesn’t wait to be asked.

7. Like a Rocket Award

Antique Silver rocket shaped resin fun award with an orange window on a red personalised base

For the person who doesn’t seem to understand the concept of “eventually.”
They think fast. Act fast. Execute fast.
A little rocket for the colleague who always seems ready for launch.

8. Most Liked Idea Award

Sometimes the giant thumbs-up says everything. This can work particularly well for innovation challenges, hackathons, brainstorming sessions, employee voting or simply recognizing the idea everyone in the room loved.

9. Business Growth Award

A tiny money bag for someone who has contributed to very real growth. It could recognize sales, business development, profitability, a new account or simply a commercial idea that made a difference. Fun design. Serious achievement.

10. Fire Fighter Award

Red fire extinguisher shaped resin fun award at work with black detailing on black base

For the person everybody calls when something is on fire. Not literally, we hope. They’re the colleague who stays calm when a project starts falling apart, solves problems and somehow finds a way through. It’s one of those award names that teams understand instantly.

11. Everything Award

Everything Award with an antique silver finish on a black base

For the colleague who somehow seems to be involved in…everything.

The hashtag design leaves this one deliberately open to interpretation.

It can recognize versatility, involvement, enthusiasm or simply that person whose name seems to come up in every project.

12. Together Award

Sometimes recognition isn’t about one individual. The ampersand makes a simple symbol for collaboration, partnership or two people who consistently bring out the best in each other. It can also work for a team whose achievement happened precisely because people worked together.

13. Connection Champion Award

For the natural connector. The person who knows everyone, introduces people, builds relationships and somehow always knows exactly who you need to speak to. The @ symbol turns that idea into a simple visual object.

14. Master Chef Award

Some workplaces take their food very seriously. This could recognize the office baker, the person whose lunch everyone secretly envies, the colleague who feeds the entire team or the undisputed winner of your office cook-off. Sometimes recognition can simply be about something that brings people joy.

15. Always in Action Award

Black and white clapperboard shaped fun award with a raised striped on top

For the person who gets things moving. The clapperboard design can work for a presentation superstar, content creator, event team member or simply the colleague who always seems to be where the action is.

16. Sweetest Team Member Award

Sweetest team member fun award with a brown segmented top, silver wrapper effect and purple panel

A chocolate bar that won’t disappear in five minutes. This one is for the genuinely kind colleague. The person who checks in when someone is struggling. Who remembers. Who helps. Who quietly makes work a little warmer for everybody around them. Not every contribution to a workplace can be measured. Some deserve to be noticed anyway.

Don’t Just Name the Award. Tell Them Why.

A clever award name gets the smile.
The words you say with it create the recognition.
Imagine handing someone a Fire Fighter Award and simply saying:
“Congratulations. You’re our Fire Fighter.”
It’s fun.

Now imagine saying: “For staying calm when everything around us seems to be on fire, and somehow always finding a way forward.” The same little award suddenly means much more. The object gets attention.
The words give it meaning.

Whatever fun award category you create, tell the recipient what you noticed.
What did they do?
Why does it matter?
How did it affect the team?
That’s the part they’ll remember.

When Funny Employee Awards Stop Being Funny

This is where we would urge a little caution. It can be tempting to create funny office awards around popular movie characters, celebrities or fictional personalities.

At Pinnacle, we deliberately avoid this.
The problem is that a character rarely represents just one thing.
You may choose a character because they’re clever. Someone else remembers them for being manipulative.
You may associate them with confidence. Someone else remembers their arrogance.
The intention behind the award may be completely positive.
But once you’ve presented it, you no longer control the conversation around it.

A harmless reference can become a nickname.
The nickname can become a lunchtime joke.
And something that started as recognition can leave the recipient feeling uncomfortable.
That’s exactly what recognition should never do.

The same caution applies to funny awards based on someone’s appearance, age, accent, relationships or other personal characteristics. There are hundreds of ways to have fun without making a person the punchline. Before approving any funny award category, ask one question: Will everyone laugh together, or is there a chance they will eventually laugh at this person? If there is even a little doubt, find another idea.

How to Create Your Own Fun Award Categories

You don’t need to copy someone else’s list of funny award names. In fact, the best fun employee awards usually come from your own culture. One possible way is to start listening to the way people already talk about each other.

Ask: Who is always… ?
Who is always solving the impossible problem?
Who is always connecting people?
Who brings energy into the room?
Who has an idea for everything?
Who makes everyone feel welcome?
Who gets things done before anyone else has started?
Who contributes something valuable that would never appear on a performance report?

Those answers are where your award ideas live.

Then think about the object.
A rocket.
An astronaut.
A battery.
A tiny money bag.
An ampersand.
A chocolate bar.

The object becomes a visual shorthand for the story you’re trying to tell. And that is when a fun award stops being just a novelty and becomes personal recognition.

Fun Awards Don’t Have to Look Cheap

There is another misconception worth challenging. If an award is humorous, the object itself doesn’t have to feel disposable. In fact, we believe the opposite. A fun employee award should still be thoughtfully designed and beautifully made. Because the joke may last thirty seconds. The object could sit on someone’s desk for years.

The best outcome is when the recipient looks at it months later and remembers not only what everyone laughed about, but why they were appreciated in the first place. That’s why we like these awards small, tactile and easy to keep close. Recognition doesn’t always need to be grand to matter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fun Employee Awards

What are some good funny awards for employees?

Good funny employee awards recognize something positive and instantly recognizable about the person. Examples include Always Charged Up, Fire Fighter, Like a Rocket, Connection Champion, Proactive Planner and Sweetest Team Member. The best ideas usually come from the language and stories already inside your own team.

How do you make office awards funny without embarrassing someone?

Make the humour about a positive contribution, behaviour or strength rather than appearance, age, accent, relationships or anything potentially sensitive. A useful test is whether the recipient will genuinely enjoy the joke too.

What are good award categories for teams?

Team award categories can recognize collaboration, ideas, problem-solving, growth, energy, learning, speed, kindness and connection. Categories such as Together, Most Liked Idea, Business Growth and Infinite Possibilities can recognize contributions beyond traditional performance awards.

Should funny employee awards be personalized?

Whenever possible, yes. Personalization makes a fun award feel intentional rather than generic. This can be as simple as adding the recipient’s name and a short citation explaining exactly why they are being recognized.

What should you write on a fun employee award?

Keep the award name short, but make the citation specific. Explain what the person did and why the team appreciates it. The fun title creates the smile. The specific words are what make the recognition meaningful.

Your Team Probably Already Has Its Next Award Idea

Every workplace has its own language, personalities and stories. That’s why some of the most enjoyable awards we’ve created didn’t begin with a catalogue. They began with a conversation. “There’s this person on our team who always…” Tell us the story.

We’ll help you turn it into an award people will smile about when they receive it and, hopefully, still have sitting on their desk years later.
