Hey Hi Everybody,
This is Nidhi from Pinnacle Works and today I want to tell you a small story a story about glass. How glass was invented? You know we are into recognition and glass was actually one of the first material we started working in Pinnacle.
And as a designer I always like to go back to the history the point of creation where the material was created and why it was created somehow I just kind of like it and it helped me work better.
So when I was researching for glass like when was glass when was glass invented I came across a very interesting story. This is from the book called 70 great inventions of ancient world. It”s by Brian M Fagin and it talks about that there was a group of traders who were on their ship carrying natural soda or nitrium. And they came a shore they wanted to cook their food and say what they wanted to rest. So they came on the beach so to say were all silica is or natural sand and now we know that soda and sand when it is heated that’s how glass is made.
So when they came a shore and they were looking for rocks to cook their food but they were not able to find any rocks and they said okay no problem why don’t we get the sacks of natural soda and the blocks of them from our ship and cook the food, use them as stones and put the fire in the middle and put our pots and cook.
Brilliant idea. But as heat was introduced and the soda was there and the silica from this from the beach all combined together a crazy kind of liquid started to flow and that was the invention of glass. Can you imagine ? And all the time I thought actually that glass were invented in some industrial revolution some factory some scientist had a Eureka moment and of course it was nothing like that. That’s how a glass was invented and of course we loved working with glass.
Now there are many many variations of glass which has come up. There is a clear glass, extra clear glass I’ve done a video on that before and of course we have also optic crystal, clear crystal, lead crystal. I’ll probably end up doing a video on crystal because a lot of people are asking me questions about the different types of crystals. In fact our customers also ask us because at the face of it a lot of times the crystals a lot of crystals may look similar but their origination and how it is made is completely different.
