6 Different Types of Lapel Pin for Every Occasion and Budget

While I have always loved lapel pins, the general feeling was that it was too small for us to focus at Pinnacle so in our initial years we only made them for clients who specifically asked for them. All that changed when we met an Indian Air Force Pilot, whose wife was part of the Pinnacle family, working in our sales team. For his Air Force unit, our Pilot client wanted a 3D aircraft pin as a memorabilia gift. Now 3D miniatures are difficult to make and since the stakes were so high (we had to please an Indian Air Force unit, and the client wanted every detail of the aircraft to be captured on the pin) it was a real challenge. But to our greatest joy, we passed with flying colours! We all fell in love with lapel pins and a new line was born- Pinnacle Pins.

Since then we have shipped over 1 million customised Pinnacle Pins and Medals, created hundreds of customised lapel pin designs for companies across 21 industry sectors. 

Lapel pins may be tiny but they deliver a whole lot. Exquisitely designed, greatly detailed, handcrafted, our lapel pins are worn for days or months, even years with pride and later, they are preserved as mementos and keepsakes. We call them “little packets of memories.”  

Pinnacle Pins has changed how lapel pins are done in India. I can proudly say that we turned it into an art form. We make pins in zinc alloy, brass, pewter, real silver and even real gold, with finishes including perfect antiques, glimmering metals, subtle satins, sterling silver and of course, 24 karat gold. Whatever a customer’s budget, we ensure that they get the most mileage from their pins. When we started Pinnacle Pins, nobody in India had ventured so deeply into this space. It was an educational journey for us and then our customers supported us and started ordering. What emerged were 6 distinct categories of lapel pins. Each category works, depending on the requirement of the customer. 

Colossal Wonder Pins: These are special three dimensional pins- 3D miniature replicas of logos, symbols, or products.. They need detailed design work and are difficult to make, but so worth it! Without fail, they turn out stunning and become prized possessions of whoever receives them. These pins are a bit pricey, but they are truly unforgettable.

Pin Ultimate: Vibrant and colourful, in the making of these pins, the customer’s artwork is etched in metal and enamel colours are filled by hand with extreme precision. After that the pin undergoes a series of treatments, including heat, to harden the enamel and give it a flat, gleaming look. World over, these are considered the tiffany in lapel pin finishes. That is the reason many collector pins are made this way. The manufacturing of this category of pins is tricky to say the least, more so because of their small size. It takes a little more time to make them too and the costs are higher as well. 

Timeless Pins: These are the beloved classics. The great armies of the world would have made their medals and pins in this manner. Here, a flat logo or symbol is dye-casted in metal and electro-plated to perfection. These Timeless Pins are in a single colour- the colour of the metal. They are solid, sturdy and prized possessions! These have a classic vintage appearance.

Goodness Pins: This is a popular type of lapel pin and our best seller. It is part 3d and part flat. We design a 3D-like look using an element of the customer’s logo or product, but keep the rest of the design flat.  This makes the element stand out. Overall the pin looks beautiful and quite different from the flat etched pins.

Vibrant Pins: Vibrant pins are brilliantly coloured lapel pins. These are the best choice when the customer’s logo is multi-coloured.  Vibrant Pins require special inks and processes to ensure that the print stays well on the pin and never fades. Additionally, the printed artwork is protected with our Epoxy Dome, which is available in two thicknesses.

Elemental Pins: As the name suggests, this is the standard finish in lapel pins, but given Pinnacle Pin’s specialty designs, our Elemental Pins too stand out from the rest available in the market. Here the customer’s logo or artwork is engraved and wherever required, enamel colour is filled in. The enamel is air-dried after this. Even though we refer to this as the standard finish, we offer it to our customers because it is the right fit for many occasions.
