Frosting on glass refers to an extremely light etching or engraving to the glass just enough to remove its transparency. Its often done for glass windows and doors so that one can’t see through it. Many manufacturers supply frosted glass as well so you need not buy plain glass and then frost it.
In fact, many companies such as 3M also have a film which can be pasted on a plain glass and giving it an appearance of being frosted.
Drinking glasses of different types are also frosted.
Usually, in the awards industry, we do not use frosting technique for its too light to highlight the artwork and text correctly.
Sadly though many glass and crystal awards get laser etched and it gives a similar poor result like frosting. The readability is quite poor. Suppliers usually do this for they might not have the right equipment to engraved on glass and crystal and lasers are easy to find.
When you buy glass and crystal award ensure that it’s not laser engraved but sand carved for that gives the best results.
